Starting a new group.

Docs » Getting Started » Creating a new group

Before you create a new group it's a good idea to check that a group does not already exist which does the same thing!

There are two ways to do this: you can use the "Search for a group" dialog on the right of your Groups page, or you can use the "browse all the public groups" link just below it.

Once we have established that your new group will not be a duplicate we can start the process of creating it

Creating the new group

  1. Start by clicking the "Create a New Group" link on the right-hand side of your Groups page.

  2. We now have to choose between the three different types of Flickr Group:

Private Groups are invisible in every respect to normal users of Flickr. They can only be seen by a Flickr member if they are invited to join the group and they choose to do so.

Public, invitation only groups are visible to all members of Flickr and are included in searches, but membership of them is controlled by the administrator(s) of the group and an invitation is required. The administrator may also choose to hide group photo pools and discussion from non-members too.

Public, anyone can join groups are completely open to access by any Flickr member and anyone can join them instantly if they so choose.

  3. Having chosen the appropriate type of group we will now be asked to give the group a name and, optionally, a description. This description, of entered, will appear on the groups home page.

All done, new group created!
