Joining Flickr

There's not much point in telling you anything else until you've joined!

Docs » Getting Started » Joining Flickr

So, you've visited the Home Page and now you want in. You can view the preview first to get an idea of what to expect once you're inside.

Signing Up

  1. Start by clicking the "Sign up now!" button on the Home Page.

  2. Enter a Screen Name.

This is how you'll be known throughout Flickr, but you can change it later if you feel the need.

  3. Enter an email address.

They won't sell it and you'll need to reply to an email Flickr sends you to complete your registration.

  4. Choose a password which you will use to sign in.

  5. Check/Tick the box to say you have read the Terms of Use.

Fill in your profile

  1. If you want to you can now fill in your Flickr profile.

This can be done at any time later by clicking the Edit Profile link under Your Account in the Mega Footer.

Your Home Page

  1. Now you will be presented with your Home Page, where you will always start your Flickr adventures.

Your Home Page consists of two columns:

The right-hand column is used for previews of the latest photos to be added to Flickr: Yours, your Contacts' and Everybody else's. The right-hand column also has a link to the Uploading page.

The left-hand column has an area at the top for alerting you to things you need to know, like new mail. Below that is a News area, from where you can access the Flickr Blog. Finally, in the lower section of the left-hand column are links to the other areas of Flickr; more about these later.

At the very bottom of your Home Page is the Mega Footer, where you can find links to everything you could ever want - very useful indeed.

Confirming your email address

  1. Tear yourself away from that gorgeous Flickr interface for a moment and check your email for a message from the Flickr Staff.

  2. Click on the link in the email and you will be sent to a page confirming that your registration is complete.

Congratulations, you're now a member!
